Infectious disease epidemiology and transmission dynamics (how infections spread)

If you’re interested in public health then infectious disease epidemiology and transmission dynamics is something that you have to get your head around. This video is all about how communicable diseases (those caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites) spread from person to person. I also talk about the R0 (basic reproductive numbers) which can be used to calculate how many people need to be vaccinated to get to herd immunity. Public health officials use this knowledge to respond to outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics as they occur.

Sexually transmitted diseases STD in women and men syphilis, chlamydia, gonoirrhoeae and hermes

Sexually transmitted diseases STD in women and men syphilis, chlamydia, gonoirrhoeae and hermes

This lecture explains about the different types of sexually transmitted diseases in women and in men such as siphilis, gonorrhoeae, chlamydia and AIDS. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections that you can get from having sex with someone who has the infection. The causes of STDs are bacteria, parasites and viruses. There are more than 20 types of STDs, including

Chlamydia
Gonorrhea
Genital herpes
HIV/AIDS
HPV
Syphilis
Trichomoniasis
Most STDs affect both men and women, but in many cases the health problems they cause can be more severe for women. If a pregnant woman has an STD, it can cause serious health problems for the baby.

If you have an STD caused by bacteria or parasites, your health care provider can treat it with antibiotics or other medicines. If you have an STD caused by a virus, there is no cure. Sometimes medicines can keep the disease under control. Correct usage of latex condoms greatly reduces, but does not completely eliminate, the risk of catching or spreading STDs.

A short animated film produced by the Global Health Media Project http://globalhealthmedia.org in collaboration with Yoni Goodman http://yonigoodman.com.

This film makes visible the invisible cholera germs as a young boy shows how to help the sick and guides his village in preventing the spread of cholera.

The film shows how to make the basic homemade oral rehydration solution using sugar, salt , and safe water as these items were felt to be most widely available. However, a solution prepared with a readymade ORS packet is the first choice if supplies are available.
